Welcome, Heidi Jean van Achterberg!

Heidi is enthusiastically greeted by her many siblings.

Heidi was born into the family on December 12, 2003 at 8:04am West Central African time (2:04am Eastern Standard Time). She weighed 7 lb 6 oz (3.3kg) and was 21 inches (53cm) long. Crystal gave birth in our home in Impfondo, Congo.

Heidi had to be on oxygen starting a couple hours after birth because of some mucus she had inhaled at birth. Fortunately, Dr. Joe had prepared some of the future hospital’s equipment to be available for this birth, so Heidi is breathing oxygen-rich air from the hospital’s oxygen concentrator. She may need to keep breathing this air for a couple of days. Please pray her lungs will clear well without any further complications.
